10/26/2019 0 Comments Types of Spinal ArthritisSpinal arthritis is a chronic condition that can manifest in different ways. It is important to identify the root of this debilitating disease and treat it in the appropriate manner to provide relief. The spinal cord is a complex system of bones, muscles, ligaments, discs and nerves that keep the body moving. They work together to facilitate standing, sitting, bending and twisting motions. It follows that any complication anywhere along the spine can cause serious difficulties for the body. Spinal arthritis has become a common disorder in the back and neck. The spinal arthritis symptoms first manifest as stiffness and worsen into loss of flexibility, pain, weakness and more. Regular movements turn excruciating and can limit everyday life. There are many forms of spinal arthritis that distress the joints, muscles and bones in the spine. It can occur anywhere along the spine, but the lower back and neck are the most commonly affected. Let’s take a look at some of the types of arthritis that affect the back and neck: • Osteoarthritis – This is the most common form of spinal arthritis. The cartilage that cushions the vertebrae experiences wear and tear with age. As the bones start rubbing against each other, it leads to soreness, inflammation and pain. It can cause bone spurs, spinal deformation and disability as well. • Rheumatoid arthritis – This is an autoimmune disorder wherein the immune system mistakes the joints for harmful bacteria and virus and starts attacking the synovium that lines the joints. It can affect any part of the body including the neck and back. This is a localized issue and may affect a few vertebrae causing pain and swelling in that particular area. • Psoriatic arthritis – This is linked to the psoriasis skin disease that can lead to joint disease. When it affects the back, it manifests as bony protrusions that cause the vertebrae to fuse together. Stiffness and pain is bound to follow. • Spondyloarthritis – This encompasses various kinds of inflammation that occurs where the ligaments and tendons attach to the bones (enthesitis).
Spinal arthritis may manifest in other forms as well. But the symptoms and other issues remain largely the same. Proper diagnosis and non-invasive spinal arthritis treatment like non-surgical disc restoration, laser therapy, bio-electro medicine and chiropractic treatments can help alleviate and even reverse the condition.
